We are actively seeking new board members and volunteers

The two sites we've used before are no longer available to us, and finding a new one was harder than you'd expect. When we lined up the calendars, there was quite literally one date that worked across every constraint, and October 24 was it. Coordinating dumpsters, a site, and enough volunteers is a real juggling act, and the pieces only fit together one way.
We've seen the feedback about the late date, and we hear you. As an all-volunteer organization, we'll always aim for a consistent schedule, but it will stay a little dynamic year to year depending on what we can pull together. The best way to help us land an earlier date is to lend a hand next year. More hands mean more flexibility, and we'd be glad to have the help. This event only happens because neighbors put in the hours, and we're grateful MacKay Jaycees Park came through so we could keep it going.
Alger Heights Neighborhood Association is entirely volunteer-run. Nobody here is paid. Every year, dumpster day comes down to whether enough neighbors step up to staff it, and every year that's the hardest part. If this event matters to you, the best way to keep it going is to take a shift.
We've broken the morning into one-hour blocks and three roles:
ID checking - confirm residents live in the cleanup area
Car guiding - direct vehicles in and out of the drop-off
Dumpster directing - make sure each dumpster fills completely before we open a new one
Blocks: 8-9, 9-10, 10-11, and 11-12. Pick whatever hour and role works for you and sign up to volunteer here.
We have 12 dumpsters this year. Once they're full the event wraps up, even if that's before noon, so neighbors are encouraged to come early.
We'll also be asking for donations. The city provides the dumpsters, but everything else the association does runs on donations: newsletters, printing, and getting the word out about events like this one. That support is what keeps the association going, and the association is what makes Dumpster Day happen. When someone asks you to chip in, please give what you can.
