Dumpster Day 2026

Alger Heights Dumpster Day is back with 12 dumpsters. Please arrive early, be prepared to unload your own items (volunteers will not be unloading vehicles), and check the official event page before you come for accepted and prohibited items, eligibility, and any updates.

Where to go: the rear lot behind the playground

Grand Rapids Public Works and Parks and Recreation have confirmed the drop-off site is the back parking lot behind the playground at MacKay-Jaycees Park. Trash dumpsters will be placed in the center of that lot, with space for vehicles to drive around them. A recycling dumpster will be on site too.

City staff will set up between 7:00 and 7:30 AM; resident drop-off begins at 8:00 AM. Four to five trash dumpsters will be available at a time and replaced as they fill, for a total of 12. Follow on-site volunteers for vehicle routing.

Volunteer for a one-hour shift

The neighborhood association is entirely volunteer-run. Shifts run in one-hour blocks from 7 AM setup through noon-1 PM cleanup, across three roles:

• Checking IDs and collecting addresses
• Handing out promotional materials and surveys
• Traffic control

Why the later date?

Our two previous locations were unavailable. Coordinating the park, dumpsters, staffing, and schedules made October 24 the workable date. We know an earlier event would be preferable for many residents, and additional volunteer help gives us more flexibility in the future.

Help sustain neighborhood programs

The City provides the dumpsters, but our association depends on donations to support outreach, printing, newsletters, and other neighborhood activities. If you're able to give, we appreciate it.
